Zero Cents, "The Longest Line", oil on canvas
Race is something that bonds but also has the power to shatterthere is only one race that unites us all and that is under the title Human. What does it mean to be human?
We are all born into some kind of race whether we realize it or not. Before we know it we are clawing our way through what we call life. It’s a constant struggle to make it to the front only to eventually fall behind either by fatigue, injury or perhaps because you were paid. This thing extends to every aspect of life whether it’s a race to the bathroom or to find that one true love. This competition is even more present in these accelerated times where there is a constant need for the next big thing. To be caught up in this raceis this what makes us human?
Zero Cents (b.1986) is an American-born Israeli-based artist living and working in Tel Aviv. For the past 9 years, the artist has been working both in studio and on the streets, painting murals and creating site-specific installations. The artist’s work deals with observations on people surrounding him: the lovers and fighters, the party-ers, the thinkers, the dancers and the damned.
Through his work, the artist documents the energy the human race creates, the wisdom, morals, values (or the lack of them) that they pass on. While conducting this research, he communicates the subjects’ movement and energy on a variety of surfacesfrom found wood to city wallsusing various mediums and techniques without judgment. Using these components as a metaphor for forgiveness, Zero Cents shows the human race as it is, in the most authentic and honest way he feels possible.
Zero Cents has exhibited in group shows around the world and solo exhibitions in Tel Aviv. A Human Race at Anno Domini is his first solo exhibition abroad.
