Flies in the Buttermilk is about brutality and decay lying quietly beneath beauty and nature the natural world and human nature. Jennybird's work, like the exhibit title taken from a children's rhyme, has a presumed innocence about it. Her art is a reflection on the most basic things, 'the heart', death and life infused with a sprite of humor. She explores a duality in her imagery, that sugary sweet surface pulling you forward, yet upon closer inspection a mounting disquiet is revealed... an honest depiction of the truths of life.
"My paintings are keyhole views into a fairytale land, where sugar and spice, and everything nice, isnt all that it's cracked up to be" ~Jennybird Alcantara
