Anno Domini presents...

The Melting Kingdom Dimitri Drjuchin (NY)

VIEW & PURCHASE AVAILABLE WORKS ONLINE

Dimitri Drjuchin returns to Anno Domini for his second solo exhibition entitled The Melting Kingdom on August 5, 2011.

In this new series Drjuchin slips us into parallel space of bright pinks, blues, reds and yellows through his pouring rain paint portals that harbor a metaphor for our country’s current socio-economic troubles. The problems, embodied in his monsters that ooze across cityscapes, are surrounded by super humans who still manage to have the last laugh. In these epic, dripping landscapes, stories of individual triumph melt down the canvas seducing us into a world where anything is possible, even happiness during crisis. In Drjuchin’s words, “Every piece in this show has something melting in it as a reflection of my perception of the state of the world we are in right now. There are no guarantees anymore. There is no more security. There’s just an overwhelming feeling that things are going down hill. That we are falling apart, that we are melting away…. But it's also not all bad, I found myself to be at my happiest this year. I made peace with some tumultuous areas of my life and the past and learned what it is to really be happy and what it is to really love someone and everyone. Like in ‘Honeymoon,’ I set out to try to convey a feeling of joy through it all and make something sweet rather then painful out of this mess.”

Scattered with iconic symbolism and cultural metaphors, Drjuchin’s new body of work presents the viewer with much to contemplate. Mystical, comical and surreal, his painted entities seem to look out at us as if we are their own reflection looking back.

Dimitri Drjuchin was born in Moscow, but grew up creating sonic and visual art in Manhattan. He graduated Parsons School Of Design in 2003 with a B.F.A. in Illustration.
